A word from Bill:
It is an honor to serve as Vice President and Dixie Circuit Director for the Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association (PAFRA). It is a privilege for me to continue to serve our Active Duty Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Reservist, National Guardsmen, and veterans who share the interest of rodeo within our midst. We are an elite group. Our association is unique in itself due to our membership’s dedication to serve and protect our freedoms and liberties that so many take for granted on a daily basis. Not every one has the intestinal fortitude to stand in adversity and harms way to accept the possibility of eternal life to protect our nation. There is no greater honor than that of a man/woman who will lay their life on the line for their fellow man/woman. There are thousands of our brothers and sisters who have walked our path before us and sacrificed so much. To them we are grateful and it is our duty to honor them. We will always remember our comrades who are in harms way and await their safe return. Our association is one way that those who share the interest of rodeo in the military community can gather, bond, build lasting friendships, and rekindle old friendships.
PAFRA has been around for years. While it may not have been called PAFRA in the beginning, it has evolved to exist today through the hard work and dedication of a select few. Our officers and directors have and will continue to seek new ways to increase membership, sponsorship, and events so that we may one day be as large as the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) association. While our purse is not as huge as the PBR, our hearts are. The competitive spirit runs deep within the hearts and souls of our membership. We have members who will travel all over the continental US to compete and earn the right to attend our World Finals held in Cowtown Coliseum, Ft Worth, TX over Veteran’s Day weekend each year to be titled as “World Champion” of their respective events.
I competed in the European Rodeo Cowboy’s Association back in the mid 80’s and early 90’s. I can remember talking about a Military Rodeo Association back then, but never knew how to get involved. Now, as I travel around the country, I make it a priority to contact as many people and every recruiter that I can to introduce myself and spread the word about our great association. As always, I am asked questions and get looks of disbelief that such an organization exist. I foresee our association’s membership increasing 200% by the end of 2008. There is a lot of buzz and excitement going on within the association. Each member is a direct reflection and ambassador for the association. Continue to spread the word and I hope to see many of you in Ft Worth this year.
Ride hard!
Bill Hogue
